2018-2026 Jeep Wrangler JL Lift Kit Fitment Guide
The 2018-2026 Jeep Wrangler JL uses solid front and rear axles on coil springs, so most JL lift kits fall into a few groups: leveling kits, short arm coil lifts (often 2.5 in. or 3.5 in.), and long arm systems for taller lifts. This guide helps you narrow the choice before you shop our Jeep Wrangler JL lift kits.
Check your exact JL first
- 2-door or 4-door (Unlimited): spring rates and some components differ by body style.
- 4xe and 392: these models are heavier and some kits list them separately. Only buy a kit that names your model on the product page.
- Model year: confirm the year range on the listing.
- Trim: Rubicon and non-Rubicon models can differ in factory ride height and components.
Picking a lift height
A leveling kit raises the front to remove factory rake. A 2.5 in. lift is a common choice for 35 in. tires, and taller lifts are usually picked for 37 in. tires and more articulation. Tire fitment also depends on wheel offset and backspacing, so check both before you order.
What else to plan for
- Adjustable track bars and control arms to re-center axles and set caster.
- Shocks matched to your lift height. See our JL shocks.
- A professional alignment after installation.
- Re-gearing if you add much larger tires.
- Driveshaft angles on taller lifts.
Leveling kit vs. coil lift vs. long arm
Leveling kits usually use spacers or slightly taller front springs. They are the simplest install and keep factory ride quality close to stock. Short arm coil lifts replace the springs and add parts like bump stop extensions, sway bar links and a track bar or bracket so the axle stays centered. Long arm systems move the lower control arm mounts to reduce the change in pinion angle and caster at taller heights. They usually cost more and take longer to install.
Budget, boost and ride quality
A "budget boost" spacer kit keeps the factory springs and shocks, which can leave shocks short of travel. A complete kit with matched springs and shocks generally rides better. If you drive mostly on the street, a mild lift with quality shocks is often the best balance. If you wheel often, look at adjustable control arms and better steering parts.
Steering and front end
Taller lifts and bigger tires load the steering more. Many owners add a heavier tie rod and drag link, a steering stabilizer and adjustable track bar. If you notice a violent shake after a bump, read our death wobble fix guide.
Install tips
- Torque suspension bolts at ride height, with the Jeep's weight on the tires, when the instructions call for it.
- Re-check bolt torque after the first few hundred miles.
- Recalibrate the speedometer if you change tire size.
FAQ
Will a JL lift kit fit my 4xe?
Only when the product page lists the 4xe. Some kits have 4xe-specific springs because of the added weight.
Do I need new shocks?
Many kits include shocks, and some do not. Check the "includes" list on each product page.
